TEA Says School Districts Must Inform Parents Of COVID-19 Exposure

2.7kviews

It is now mandatory that school districts disclose to parents when their child has been exposed to COVID-19. The Texas Education Agency announced this on Thursday.

Since August 5, schools only had to inform the local health department and the Texas Department of State Health Services of positive test results in their districts. In other words, districts didn’t have to do contact tracing or inform parents of infected persons in the same class as their child.

Many opposed this guideline.

COVID-19 transmission is increasing in the classrooms, virtual learning is limited, and many mask mandates have been removed. Thus, TEA has changed its decision.

The Agency has also reversed another action. Districts are now permitted to use remote instruction for students that have the virus. This also applies to those who are exposed. This is for funding reasons. As long as requirements are met, the student will be considered in attendance.
