A man was killed in a trooper-involved shooting, on Thursday night, on I-10, in Baton Rouge, LA.
The car’s driver has been named by Louisiana State Police as 52-year-old Jose Reza-Navarro, of Spring, Texas.
Authorities say that he fled down the highway subsequent to a traffic stop at about 10 p.m. He had led them on a pursuit which resulted in several hit-and-run wrecks.
When the public was at great risk because of how fast the driver was traveling, troopers ceased the chase.
After hitting another vehicle, the driver fled on foot. Although it isn’t known why, a trooper fired his weapon at the suspect. Reza-Navarro was declared deceased at the scene from his wounds.
When a search warrant was obtained, troopers discovered 182 pounds of suspected cocaine stashed in a suitcase in Reza-Navarro’s car. It was said to be valued at $2.5 million.
The trooper who fired his gun was put on administrative leave.
An investigation is continuing.
