Hollyn Peterson, a college senior, has something to celebrate because she will be graduating after beating cancer three times.

This weekend, Peterson will address her fellow classmates at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater commencement exercises.

Her goal is to motivate all who will be listening.

“I feel like it’s been a long time coming. I’ve had a lot of people ask me, ‘Hollyn, how do you not give up? Because you have the worst luck,” Peterson stated.

Hollyn was first told that she had cancer when she was 5 years old. She then had surgery and had to undergo chemotherapy.

Then, when she was seven, the cancer returned, and later, it came back a third time.

Hollyn says that she was absent from school more than 650 times, so she was often unaware of what was happening in her classes. However, she pressed on and was later accepted into college.

Now, Peterson wants to ensure that her fellow classmates are thankful for the life they are living,

Her next endeavor is attend Syracuse University in New York, where she is planning to receive her master’s degree in fine arts.
