Strip Club Owners Propose Topless Cannabis Dispensary

The owners of Club Castaway, a strip club in Whately, Massachusetts, are intending to turn their business into a topless cannabis dispensary.

“The market is very saturated. There are a lot of operators, and everyone is offering the same experience. This is definitely a way to stand out while also keeping the spirit of the existing business alive,” said Nick Spagnola, an owner.

Sources report that the business had first close down because of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and hasn’t opened back up thus far.

Earlier this month, Spagnola and co-owner Julius Sokol presented their idea to the Whately Select Board. Both men have experience in the cannabis industry. One is the owner of Massachusetts Green Retail Inc., and they both own East Boston Bloom LLC.

“We do have some experience on the cannabis side and some on the nudity side. We want to replace this night club scene and alcohol with something that is harmless in comparison,” Spagnola stated.

For now, they have hired a lawyer and are in the middle of an agreement to purchase a cannabis business in Whately that has already received a permit. The two want to transfer the license to their club.

As that is in the works, Club Castaway will open back up under the model it has now at the end of March.
