Street Racing Crash In Grand Prairie Claims The Life of 4 Family Members; Suspect In Custody

Four people were killed over the weekend in a crash that may have been caused by a suspected street racer.

On August 10, around 8 p.m., Grand Prairie police responded to a two vehicle crash on S. Beltline Rd.

When officers arrived they found three people deceased at the scene and two more with severe injuries. The two people were transported to area hospitals where one of the victims died and the other remains in critical condition.

Officers learned after investigating that a family of five was traveling on Beltline Rd in a Chevrolet Traverse when it was struck by a red Dodge Charger. It is believed that the Charger was street racing with another car when it collided into the suv.

The driver of the Traverse was identified as 20 year old Jaime Mesa. He was taken to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Mesa faces multiple charges including racing on a highway causing death, manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury.

Police also arrested a second person 22 year old Anthony Morales, the driver of the car Mesa was racing, on similar charges.
