A voluntary recall is in effective for packages of Fresh Express and Publix spinach by Fresh Express, stated the Food and Drug Administration. This is because of issues of listeria contamination.
The 8-ounce Fresh Express Spinach packages contain product code G332 and the use-by date is Dec. 15. Then, 9-ounce packages of Publix Spinach contains a product code of G332 and a use-by date of Dec. 14.
The two recalled spinach products were distributed to stores in seven states. This includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
The FDA has said that as the Florida Department of Agriculture performed routing testing, potential contamination was found.
Retailers have been instructed to take down affected items, and buyers are encouraged to trash the products.
A listeria infection can lead to critical health conditions, especially in those with weakened immune systems. It can also lead to stillbirth and miscarriages in pregnant women.
Other symptoms include short-term illness, high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal aches, and diarrhea, noted the FDA.
