On Sunday, SpaceX astronauts will exit The International Space Station and return to earth wearing diapers for the 20-hour ride. This is due to their toilet breaking on the flagship Dragon capsule.
“Spaceflight is full of lots of little challenges. This is just one more that we’ll encounter and take care of in our mission. So we’re not too worried about it,” stated Astronaut Megan McArthur.
After lifting up the panels on the floor of the capsule, the astronauts found that the toilet was leaking. In September, when the issue first started, a tube had become detached and urine leaked below the floorboards.
After analyzing the capsule, engineers concluded that the urine wouldn’t cause problems and traveling back to Earth would be safe.
So, since the astronauts can’t utilize the toilet, they will have on “absorbent undergarments.”
The astronauts are set to return Wednesday night.
