South Dallas Carwash Owner Sues The City

14kviews

Freddy Davenport had owned and run a carwash in South Dallas since 1993. He poured $250,000 into fixing the spot that is located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

In 2019, the city of Dallas shut down Jim’s Car Wash despite him adding extra security measures.

Now, Davenport has decided to sue. He believes that the city overly imposed regulations on the the business to ensure it would shut down eventually. He said that they tried to do that by acting as if the carwash brought in illegal activity.

Davenport has stated that his constitutional rights had been violated.

In 2019, there were 100 murders reported through July. Only one of those transpired at the carwash. However, the city used alot of its power to close it down.

A committee that investigated said that Dallas can’t blame business owners for crime if that part of the city already had a high crime rate.
