The solar eclipse, which will take place next Monday afternoon, is expected to bring in an overwhelming amount of visitors to North Texas.
Dallas is one of the counties that will experience the totality of the solar eclipse. This means the moon will completely cover the sun, leaving the day feeling like night and making it an exciting event to witness.
Travelers from all over the world are expected to travel to North Texas and get a view of the rare occurrence. Motels and hotels have completely sold out in the area, after raising their prices nearly 15x the regular amount.
In preparation for the overcrowdedness, Dallas County has announced that its offices will be closed on Monday the 8th.
Kaufman County, which only has a population of 100,000 people, is expecting 200,000 visitors to the area. As a precaution, Judge Jackie Allen, issued a disaster declaration for April 5th through April 9th for all of Kaufman County.
In addition, the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles has prohibited all size/weight permitted travel on the 8th from midnight to midnight for certain counties. The counties facing that travel ban are highlighted on the graph below.
