A Safe Streets social worker and two other people died in a quadruple shooting in Baltimore, Maryland, on Wednesday.
DaShawn McGrier had only been working as a violence interrupter for a little over a month at McElderry Park before he was killed. He was described as a passionate man who watched over his neighborhood and was concerned about the violence there.
Two other victims that died have been identified as Tyrone Allen, 28, and Hassan Smith, 24.
Around 7:25 pm., police responded after a ShotSpotter alerted them on E. Monument Street. There, they discovered the four men who had been wounded by gunfire.
McGrier was the third Safe Streets worker to be killed in a little more than a year. They work to help protect the citizens of the community.
In 2018, McGrier was beaten by an officer, and it was caught on camera. He experienced a broken jaw, ribs, and other wounds. He had received a $500,000 settlement from the city.
