On Friday, a tornado tore through an Amazon distribution center in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Now, six people have been confirmed to have died. Additionally, 45 individuals were rescued.
About 150 yards of the building collapsed, as a EF3 tornado hit the establishment. Close to 100 emergency vehicles responded to the scene as rescue teams searched through the rubble and cranes and backhoes moved the debris.
For the next three days, crews will work together to recover anyone who is still trapped in the building. Authorities aren’t sure how many people remain as the shift was changing at the time of the twist. Furthermore, there hasn’t been any reports of more deaths or injuries.
Amazon has vowed to help with the community recovery effort.
“We’re heartbroken over the loss of our teammates there…Amazon is committed to supporting them and will be by their side through the crisis. We extend our fullest gratitude to all the incredible first responders who have worked so tirelessly at the site,” stated Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos.
