Singer R. Kelly Has An IQ Of A 1st Grader, Experts Say

Singer R.Kelly has been sentenced for several wrongdoings. Before he was given his punishment, his lawyers tried to prove that he had many different issues, including diabetes and being overweight. They also said that he can’t read or write, so he wouldn’t be able to understand the punishment he was given.

Kelly has discussed his struggles with literacy in the past. In 2009, he talked about how family members would tease him and didn’t think he would be successful in life.

“I don’t even read, really, and I’m not afraid to say that… the only reason I graduated from grammar school is because I had a great jump shot,” he said back then.

However, one of his teachers saw that he was a talented writer.

“I went to high school and my teacher told me, ‘You will be one of the greatest writers of all time.’ I believed..,” he had said.

As a result, Kelly has written many hit songs, including “I Believe I Can Fly,” “The World’s Greatest,” and “Ignition.” He has also written songs for Michael Jackson, Maxwell, and others.

As said before, R. Kelly’s I.Q. was used to help with the claims against him, some say. His attorneys think that his literacy was used to manipulate him and get him to make bad business decisions.

“Kelly’s inability to read and write as a child was a significant source of shame and embarrassment that persists to this day. His literacy deficiencies have led to chronic victimization in adulthood. Kelly has been financially exploited his entire adult life,” his attorney wrote in a letter.

R. Kelly’s reading level is said to be that of a 1st grader.
