Jonathan Owens, the Chicago Bears safety, is getting ready to leave his training camp next week, in order to support his wife, Simone Biles. She will be in Paris as she competes in the 2024 Summer Olympics as a gymnast.

Per NFL.com, Owens and his agent discussed this decision prior to signing with the Bears. This was because it was already well-known who his wife was and the commitments that come with her duties.

He also expressed gratitude to the organization for being supportive of his family.

This will be the first opportunity for Owens to see Biles compete in person as she is a four-time Olympic gold medalist.

Owens plans to be absent from the team starting on Monday evening until August 3. This means that he won’t be at one regular practice, he will also miss a walkthrough, and the Hall of Fame game that will be played against the Houston Texans. However, he will continue to work out and will be provided recordings of all meetings.

Last season, Owens played with the Green Bay Packers. But, he said that his new teammates have really encouraged him not to miss out on this great opportunity.

“Man, it’s crazy. It’s like everyone’s a gymnastics fan now. People are asking me questions, because you might be walking around the building and see a commercial with her up there. So, it’s just crazy,” Owens said.
