Simone Biles’s Brother Has Been Acquitted of Murder

Tevin Biles-Thomas, the brother of U.S. Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, has been acquitted of murder and other charges. The judge determined that the evidence was “insufficient to sustain a conviction.”

Biles-Thomas, a soldier in the U.S. Army, was apprehended in August 2019.Then, he was charged with murder, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault and perjury. Afterwards, he pleaded not guilty, in September. Prosecutors stated Biles-Thomas shot Delvante Johnson, 19, and Toshaun Banks, 21. This was after the cousin of Biles-Thomas, Devaughn Gibson, 23, was confronted at a party. Johnson was said to have shot back in self-defense, killing Gibson.

A defense lawyer said there was no proof that Biles-Thomas fired any shots. Also, prosecutorsl were not able to produce a gun.

Biles-Thomas and Biles were split up when their mother lost custody of her eight children. Biles and other siblings moved to Houston. Biles-Thomas was adopted by another family member in Cleveland.
