An Illinois daycare worker was caught on video placing a 4-year-old boy in a trash can.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday in Homewood, and the parents only became aware of it after their son mentioned that a teacher had put him in the garbage can for not wanting to take a nap.
Footage from the Learning Lab daycare shows the worker lifting the boy and putting him inside the trash receptacle. According to the parents, the worker dismissed the act as just a joke.
The police informed the boy’s mother that since he did not sustain any physical injuries, there was little they could do.
However, the parents expressed their concerns because other children and teachers witnessed the event, fearing the potential psychological effects of such humiliation on their child.
In a statement released on January 17, The Learning Lab said, “We aim to communicate transparently with the family. We are collaborating with our licensing agency, DCFS, and the Homewood police. We have provided further information we recently discovered, as we believe it necessitated an investigation and possible action against the individual involved.”
It has been confirmed that the employee is no longer employed at the daycare.
The parents are now considering filing a civil lawsuit against the daycare while actively looking for a new daycare for their sons.
