A Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested on Sunday and subsequently lost his job after leading officers on a dangerous high-speed chase.
22-year-old Jakob Kite was charged with driving under the influence, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, reckless driving, resisting without violence, and resisting with violence.
Kite, an off-duty Sheriff’s Deputy at the time, was clocked going 105 MPH in a 60 MPH zone while driving in his Subaru Impreza in Lakeland. An officer initiated a traffic stop with lights and sirens, however, Kite refused to stop and increased his speed.
Another deputy, who was responding to the call, joined the high-speed chase which reached speeds of 130 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. According to the sheriff’s office, Kite aggressively swerved his vehicle with attempts to strike the second deputy.
A PIT maneuver was initiated and after striking a median, the Subaru came to a stop. Despite the off-duty Deputy refusing to exit his vehicle, he was eventually arrested and booked into jail.
Kite’s breath alcohol level was tested at 0.035. In addition to the 7 charges, Kite was also given four speeding tickets and a citation for running a stop sign.

That’s what he gets! Thinking he’s above the law because he was the law. That’s what’s wrong with half of them. They get a big head and arrogant attitude because they have a badge and they think they can do what they want and drive as fast as they want. Turn the lights on and drive through the light when they want they’re the ones that turn into bad cops.
