A Hinds County Sheriff has passed away from natural causes related to Covid-19.

An ambulance responded to a call on Wednesday to Sheriff Lee Vance’s home in Jackson, Mississippi. He was not responsive when they arrived.

A relative had gone to the residence when they couldn’t get in touch with him. They believed he might have been having a medical emergency.

Vance had not gone back to work after testing positive for the virus on July 23. He was said to have been fully vaccinated.

Vance, 63, worked in law enforcement for 30 years. He worked to fix problems at a detention center and with other agencies to combat illegal activities in the county.

He was remembered as a boss and a friend.

Deputies and officers escorted his body from his house to the funeral home two hours after he died.

Funeral services are pending.
