Sha’Carri Richardson Blasts Olympics For Allowing Russian Skater To Compete After Failed Drug Test

Sha’Carri Richardson is baffled.

In December, 15-year-old Kamila Valieva, a Russian figure skater, tested positive for trimetazidine. It is a drug for the heart that is said to increase “athletes’ endurance and blood efficiency.” It is also banned.

On Monday, the sport’s court of arbitration decided that Valieva will still be permitted to continue competing in the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, China. They said that prohibiting Valieva “would cause irreparable harm.” The news of her postive test came only after she assisted her team in winning a gold medal in Beijing.

However, it may still stop her from participating in other competitions or cause other medals to be taken away in the future.

Now, Richardson, a U.S. sprinter, has questioned the Olympics via Twitter.

“Can we get a solid answer on the difference of her situation and mines? My mother died, and I can’t run and was also favored to place top 3. The only difference I see is that I’m a Black young lady,” Richardson tweeted.

Richardson was not allowed to compete in the 100m, in Tokyo last summer, and was banned for 30 days. This came after she tested positive for cannabis following the death of her mother in June 2021.

Many have noted that cannabis isn’t a performing enhancer.

“Failed in December and the world just now know. However my resulted was posted within a week and my name and talent was slaughtered to the people. Not one Black athlete has been about to compete with a case going on. I don’t care what they say,” Richardson added.
