Two Senators are working towards giving mothers the opportunity to collect child support from the time of conception.

Senator Marco Rubio and Senator Kevin Cramer introduced a bill on Wednesday that has become very controversial.

The legislation, called the Unborn Child Support Act, gives women the ability to collect child support during the pregnancy. The paternal partner would be required to pay, as the bill would be amended to the Social Security Act.

Eight Republican senators are co-sponsoring the bill, including Senators from; Montana, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, and Kansas.

Representative Mike Johnson from Louisiana introduced partner legislation to the Unborn Child Support Act in the House.

Other bills are also being introduced to support mothers since the overturn of Roe V. Wade. Included in the bills are proposals to expand the child tax credit, add funds to the Women, Infants and Children program (WIC) and make the adoption tax credit fully refundable.
