School District Gives Parents Consent Form to Opt-in to Physical Discipline For Their Children

A school district in Missouri has given parents the option to allow their children to be physically disciplined during school.

The Cassville R-IV School District has put in place a Corporal Punishment Policy in which parents may sign a consent form and “opt-in for the use of physical force as a method of correcting student behavior.”

The policy states that an incident form is to be filled out every time corporal punishment is used. Only certified personnel may use corporal punishment on students who have consent. A witness, who must be a district employee, is to be present at the time of the punishment.

There is no specification as to what the corporal punishment is or how it will be administered, however; the policy states that there will be no striking on the head or face.
