A woman is in custody after she walked into a Royse City nursing home/ rehab center Friday morning with a sks assault rifle.
On June 30, around 9:17 am, officers responded to an active shooter call at the Royse City Medical Lodge located at 901 I-30 Frontage Rd.
It was reported that a person walked into the facility and fired multiple rounds inside. When authorities arrived they were directed to the room where a female suspect was barricaded with two other residents.
Authorities forced their way into the room and quickly arrested the suspect without incident.
The suspect was later identified as 55 year old Sarah Carter from Lancaster, Texas. She is being charged with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Royse City police are still investigating the case and additional charges could be filed against the suspect.
While investigating officers learned that Carter was involved in a relationship with a resident at the facility and was arrested in March of 2023 for trespassing.
