Rowlett Man Sentenced To 43 Years In Prison For Cyberstalking, Killing Former Girlfriend

36-year-old Andrew Charles Beard, of Rowlett, Texas, has been sentenced to prison. This came after her pled guilty to murdering his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend. The two had been involved in a custody matter.

On Wednesday, Beard received his punishment after he pled guilty to cyberstalking using a dangerous weapon resulting in death in June of 2022. He also pled guilty to discharging a firearm during a violent crime.

Authorities say that Beard confessed to cyberstalking and killing Alyssa Burkett in a parking lot in Carrollton on October 2, 2020. He had been trying to get custody of their 1-year-old daughter. Beard also confessed to putting a GPS tracking device on Burkett’s vehicle. He had trailed behind her to an apartment complex where she was employed. This was before fatally shooting her in the head.

Even though Beard believed that Burkett had died, she had actually gotten out of her vehicle. She then tried to get assistance at a building that was close by. This caused Beard, who had gone to a SUV, to go back and stab Burkett 13 times.

Burkett passed away in the parking lot while Beard fled from the location.

Hours after the killing, authorities pulled Beard over as he was driving a white pickup truck. They then found boots that had been cut up and placed in bleach. A further search of his residence revealed a battery that was linked to the GPS tracker that was on Burkett’s car. Authorities also found a written paper that Beard had utilized to call in a fake drug tip against Burkett a month prior to the killing.

On September 2, 2020, Beard confessed to attempting to set Burkett up by putting drugs and a gun in her vehicle.

On May 24, he was given his 43-year sentence in federal prison.
