Released Video Shows Edward Bronstein Stating” I Can’t Breathe” Before Dying In Police Custody

In March 2020, Edward Bronstein was apprehended for suspected DUI.

Now, body cam video of the incident has been released.

In it, a man is heard yelling over and over, “I can’t breathe.” This is said as officers out of Altadena station, in Los Angeles County, demanded to draw his blood.

As Bronstein was taken to the station, he wouldn’t take a breathalyzer or have is blood drawn. Officers can be heard telling the man that they are permitted to force a blood draw if they apprehend the suspect for DUI. This, in fact, is true, according to California law.

When the video starts, the man is sitting on the floor as officers warn that has one last chance to comply. He is then pushed and held down on a mat while he says he will do what they ask. However, one officer lets him know that it’s too late.

About two minutes into the incident, Bronstein states that he can’t breathe. Officers then take his blood, questioning him a couple of times to see if he is okay. He is never heard responding back. One officer did question another officer to see if he had a pulse. However, they were still taking his blood, not turning him over, and kept asking if he was okay.

Ultimately, the officers took out a handheld pump with a mask on it, attempting to provide Bronstein with air.

However, he was already dead by then.

It has taken two years for video footage to be released. Now, Bronstein’s family wants to know why the sergeant who recorded the incident let it go on and didn’t sit the man up. They also want to know why Bronstein wasn’t placed on his side once he wasn’t talking back to officers.
