36-year-old Rachel Zion Clay, is said to have gotten out of her handcuffs, taking an assault rifle, and shooting it, in Grady County, Oklahoma, as she was being detained. The incident was all caught on camera footage.

Authorities say that the incident occurred outside of Oklahoma City.

“While in the backseat of a patrol car, she was able to get her wrist free from the handcuffs. The handcuffs were put on properly,” stated Grady County Sheriff Gary Boggess.

He added that the woman was able to get the rifle from the patrol vehicle’s console.

“There’s several switches. One is a gun switch to unlock the gun lock, and she found it, unlocked the gun lock, and was able to retrieve an AR-15 rifle. Then, she was able to figure out how to put a round in it, put it on fire, and she fired approximately 10 rounds at our deputies and a civilian.” The police vehicle’s dashcam captured the incident.

More than three hours later, Clay surrendered to police after refusing to get out of the car. She also tested positive for having methamphetamine in her system.

The officer and the civilian were given medical attention and were released from the hospital.

Clay has been charged with three counts of shooting with the intent to kill and has a $1 million bond.

Boggess stated that his office is now modifying guidelines to ensure the safety of their deputies.
