After performing at a seaside festival in Romania, U.S. rapper Wiz Khalifa has been charged with illlegal drug possession. It is alleged that he consumed cannabis on stage, prosecutors reported.
Khalifa had been performing at the “Beach, Please!” festival at the Romanian Village of Costinesti, on the shore of the Black Sea. That is where he got busted with the drug early Sunday.
Cannabis is thought to be a “risk drug” in Romania, and if caught with it, it is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Recordings posted on social media depicted the rapper being taken from the venue by Romanian authorities.
“During a performance at a music festival held in the resort of Costinesti, the accused was found to have possessed more than 18 grams of cannabis and to have consumed (on stage) another quantity in the form of a handmade cigarette,” Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors noted in a statement.
Sources reported that Khalifa was later charged but not held in custody.
An investigation is continuing.
