On Tuesday, an Ohio man was handed a 41-year prison sentence. This was for pretending to be a Uber driver between 2017 and 2020 and raping women who entered his vehicle.
Christian Burks had pleaded guilty to five counts of rape, four counts of kidnapping, two counts of abduction, theft, and domestic violence. He had been looking at 103 years in prison.
“I hope you are haunted by my limp body lying in the back seat of your car. I hope you never live another day without the soul-crushing weight of me on your mind,” a victim told Burks in court.
“I am not weak. I am not defenseless. I am not an object for you to use at your disposal. I will not be haunted by the thought of you.”
Before taking accountability for his behavior, Burks, a father of four, expressed his remorse to the victims and his family.
