R & B singer, Jesse Powell, 51, a native of Gary, Indiana, has passed away.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell. He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home,” a statement from his sister, Tamara Powell, a singer, read.
“The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn the tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy. Jesse loved music, and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you meant the world to him,” it continued.
In March 1996, Powell’s self-titled debut was released, including singles, “All I Need,” “Gloria,” and “I Like It.”
He was most noted for his hit, “You.” It was No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of February 20, 1999. It later moved up to No.10, which was Powell’s first top 10 hit.
Now, in the times of streaming, “You,” is still his most played song on Spotify with almost 13 million streams when it was published. Following that, Powell released two more albums, “JP,” in 2001, and “Jesse,” in 2003.
Since that time, Powell had mostly been keeping a “low profile from the public eye.”
His cause of death has not been publicized at this time.
