A bill proposed in Texas could ban recipients from using their food stamps on “junk food”.
The H.B. 4364 was filed by State Rep. Briscoe Cain who proposed that the bill ban the use on sodas, energy drinks, potato or corn chips, cookies and any other drinks that contain 54 milligrams of caffeine per 8 fluid ounces (excluding coffee).
The bill will not ban the usage on items such as vegetable juices, dairy products or fruits.
If this bill is passed it will take effect September 1.
