A Georgia Popeyes manager has been arrested and charged after being seen on video slapping an underage female employee.
The incident occurred on May 30, when Marquez Smith, 20, was seen on video slapping a 17 year old female employee.
Smith was seen walking behind the counter and confronting the female employee who was holding her cellphone. He then slapped her so hard that her phone flew out of her hand.
Another employee quickly jumped in between the two and grabbed Smith.
Smith was later arrested and charged with first degree battery and child cruelty.
The teens family has since hired attorney Gee & Lee Law Firm in Tallahassee. The attorney released a statement saying,
“We are still investigating the events of May 30, 2022. However, it is completely unacceptable for any employee to be subjected to the physical and verbal abuse captured on video, let alone a teenager. A teenage employee should never have to face the cruel and abusive behavior witnessed in that video.”
Smith is scheduled to appear in court on September 16.
