In honor of Popeye’s 50th anniversary, the restaurant will be offering two pieces of chicken for $0.59.
This 59-cent cost matches the same price from June 12, 1972, when the first Popeye’s opened in New Orleans.
Alvin C. Copeland Sr. opened the first restaurant and named it Chicken on the Run. After struggling with sales, Copeland renamed it Popeyes after Popeye Doyle, a character from the 1971 movie “The French Connection.”
From June 12 to June 19 customers can snag this deal from participating restaurants. There is a $5 order minimum and must be purchased through the Popeyes app and Popeyes.com.
Popeyes plans to announce more celebrations as the month continues.
