Lawsuit Filed Against Officers After They Dragged, A Then 17 Year Old Girl Out Of Her Vehicle And Pointed Guns At Teens

Last week, a lawsuit was filed against police officers in River Rogue, Michigan, after they were said to have used excessive force. This was related to a teenage girl who had been pulled over, last year.

In February 2021, Maliyah Clary, who was 17 then, had been driving her mother’s vehicle with a permit but without an adult with her.

Officers pulled her out of the SUV during the traffic stop as one of them pointed a firearm at her cousins who were 14 and 15.

“My daughter is still traumatized by this event. The behavior of the officers was completely unacceptable. For a routine traffic stop to end up with teenagers being drug out of the car by their hair, by their neck. For guns being pulled, officers laughing as if it was a joke,” said Maria Woods.

Lawyers for the family have demanded a meeting with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“The city of River Rouge has a problem. They’ve got a problem with officers acting this way on not just this occasion…,” said Attorney Michael Fortner.

Clary’s mother wants officers to be held accountable for what they did. Her daughter is currently in college at Alabama State, on a presidential scholarship. She’s also never been in any type of trouble with the law.

The River Rogue Police Department stated that they are reviewing the matter, and no one has been formally disciplined.
