Police Department Receives Criticism For Using Image Of Black Man For Target Practice

Backlash, from one community in Georgia against the police department, has ensued. This is after a recording shows white civilians taking a handgun training class, shooting a picture of a Black male, for target practice.

The department has now apologized and has said that the images won’t be used anymore for civilian target practice. However, the department noted that they will still be used for training officers according to enforcement training standards.

An online recording by the Villa Rica police department shows a picture of only a Black man being used by those who are civilians that are involved in the class. On the other hand, the department says that the images are one of multiple ethnicities used in the practice.

Some people online expressed their dismay at the seemingly only use of images containing a Black male.

“Hating and being afraid of [Black] people is taught at home, at police training, and apparently random handgun classes,” one post on the police department’s Facebook page read.

“I don’t think you should have any human being as a target whether they’re Black, white, or Asian,” said the NAACP Carroll County President.

The mayor has now demanded that the images be taken off of social media and for an investigation to take place by an independent firm although the department has said that they never intentionally meant to insult anyone.
