Dr. Geoffrey Kim, 52, has turned himself in after being charged in relation to the death of a 19-year-old girl. She was under his care during an operation.
A warrant was issued for the popular Colorado plastic surgeon on Wednesday. He faces felony first-degree aggravated assault, criminally negligent homicide, and more charges in the death of Emmalyn Nguyen.
The case began in August of 2019. It involved numerous interviews and search warrants.
Nguyen had gone to Colorado Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery to receive a breast augmentation. Nguyen went into cardiac arrest after receiving anesthesia. She went into a coma and passed away in October 2020.
Kim confessed to not contacting 911 for at least five hours. He also is accused of telling the teen’s mother that she was fine. However, she wasn’t okay.
On Wednesday, Kim surrendered to police in the presence of his lawyer. He was taken into custody. He posted a $5,000 bond later.
Nurse anesthetist Rex Meeker has a warrant out for his arrest for reckless manslaughter. He is accused of being unaware that the teen had stopped breathing after 15 minutes. He also attempted various medications to reverse the anesthesia he had given her.
Authorities are currently searching for him.
