Cory Wayne Patterson is a pilot who warned that he would “intentionally crash,” into a Walmart in Tupelo, Mississippi. On Saturday morning, he was apprehended, hours after he landed the airplane in a field.
Authorities say that Patterson stole the two-engine Beechcraft King Air 90, from the Tupelo Regional Airport, close to 5:30, a.m.
The 29-year-old had contacted authorities from the plane, threatening to crash the aircraft into Walmart, stated police chief John Quaka.
The department had told residents, in homes close by, to evacuate the area. Walmart was closed down, and workers evacuated the location, as well.
The pilot stayed in the air for hours as negotiators got in touch with him. They finally persuaded him to take the plane back to the Tupelo airport.
The police noted that Patterson has some experience flying aircrafts but isn’t a licensed pilot. A private pilot helped to get him to land the plane, something Patterson hasn’t previously done. However, Patterson stopped those attempts and traveled away from the Tupelo airport.
Close to 9:30 a.m., Patterson wrote a message, saying something similar to ‘goodbye’, on Facebook. Authorities think that his fuel may have been getting low.
Later, Patterson contacted authorities, stating that he had landed the plane in a field, in Tippah County.
No one was hurt in the incident.
