A pest control company in North Carolina is offering $2,000 to homeowners who will let them release cockroaches in their homes.
On its website, The Pest Informer company stated that they are in need of five to seven households. Their goal is to place about 100 American cockroaches in their houses. This will be in order for them to analyze a “specific pest control technique.” The study will last close to 30 days, and technicians will have to video record the process.
To be a part of the study, homeowners must submit an approval in writing and be at least 21 years old. The residence must also be in the continental U.S.
During the 30-day study, homeowners aren’t allowed to use other pest control methods. However, the company has said that traditional cockroach treatment methods will be used if the new technique isn’t effective by the end of the study period.
American cockroaches are the most common cockroaches seen in the U.S. Because of their hard shell, resiliency, and reproduction speed, it is difficult to get rid of them. One female American cockroach can produce two egg cases per week. Each of the cases has about 16 eggs that can take 24 to 38 days to hatch.
The Pest Informer was founded 26 years ago. They have been in the business of creating technology for pet-friendly extermination methods. Although many pest control experts use gel bat insecticides, it isn’t clear what technique The Pest Informer will use.
To enroll in the study and the $2,000, homeowners can fill out a form and submit it on the company’s website.
