The city of San Francisco has come up with an idea on how to get people to stop shooting. They will now pay high-risk individuals to not shoot anybody. It has been started by the Human Rights Commission and Office of Economics and Workforce Development.
10 people who may shoot or be shot at will be paid $300 a month for not being apart of such violence. The funds will be given through gift cards.
The money will be distributed by the Dream Keeper Fellowship. This is a program designed to put money back into the black community.
The launch, that will start in October, will put people in connection with life coaches from the Street Violence Intervention Program. Additionally, the participants will be “community ambassadors.”
Since the beginning of 2021, 119 people in that city have been a victim of gun violence. That is double the amount from this time last year.
