A pastor was fatally stabbed inside of a place of worship after a man that he allowed to stay inside of the church killed him. That man has now been charged with first-degree murder.

James Dawkins, 44, has been charged in the killing of the pastor, 41-year-old Antwane Lenoir, on April 6, at the Westview Baptist Church in Miami, Florida.

The pastor, who was also an armed security guard, had contacted a locksmith to change multiple door locks at the church. As the locksmith was working, Lenoir and Dawkins are said to have gotten into an argument. The pastor had let Dawkins live at the church for a short period of time. Authorities say that as the men continued to have a disagreement, Dawkins stabbed Lenoir multiple times prior to leaving the church.

When first responders arrived to the scene, they located Lenoir’s body on the ground with several stab injuries to his neck.

The following day, Dawkins was located and taken into custody. Police say that when questioned, he gave conflicted statements.

Relatives of Lenoir said that Dawkins played the keyboard at the church. When he began to struggle, the pastor had allowed him to stay at Westview. Lenoir had been fatally stabbed when he attempted to put a halt to the arrangement.

Lenoir leaves behind a wife and four children.
