An 18-month-old girl is dead after her parents left her in the car following a night out on the 4th of July.
The Florida couple, Jazmine and Joel Rondon, are each charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child for the negligent incident.
According to Deputies, the family, which includes their 8-year-old, 6-year-old, and 18-month-old children, went out to a 4th of July party in downtown Lakeland.
When they arrived home, shortly after 2 a.m., investigators say Jazmine told Joel she was taking their 8-year-old and 6-year-old inside to feed them and put them to sleep. She allegedly told Joel to bring the baby inside.
Joel started bringing in food trays inside the house and when he went back outside, he says he noticed the rear car door was shut so he assumed Jazmine had brought the little girl inside.
Jazmine fed the oldest children and put them to sleep and then went to bed herself.
In the morning, Joel got up for work at around 10 a.m., and at 11 a.m. he noticed the 18-month-old was nowhere to be found. Deputies say he asked his 8-year-old daughter where her little sister was and she said she didn’t know. That’s when they realized she was still in the car.
Joel went outside and saw his youngest daughter inside the car, still in the 5-point harness in her car seat. He grabbed the girl’s lifeless body and started screaming, bringing her inside.
The couple then rushed the girl to the Lakeland Regional Medical Center but she was pronounced deceased.
Jazmine and Joel both had alcohol and marijuana in their system. Joel also tested positive for methamphetamine.
