Some parents have filed a lawsuit in Canada after they say that their children are addicted to Fortnite, the video game.
The Quebec parents gained authorization for the filing against Fortnite’s manufacturer, Epic Games, by a Canadian Supreme Court judge.
Parents have stated that kids are so hooked to the game that they don’t perform common everyday things, such as showering.
Many reports indicate that some kids are so addicted to Fortnite, they’ve brought eating and sleeping to a halt.
Justice Sylvain Lussier discussed the similarities between video games and tobacco addictions, saying “The harmful effect of tobacco was not recognized or admitted overnight.”
On the other hand, the court didn’t believe that Epic Games purposely made Fortnite addictive.
“…this does not exclude the possibility that the game is in fact addictive and that its designer and distributor are presumed to know it,” it said.
Epic Games released a statement defending themselves.
“Parents can receive play time reports that track the amount of time their child plays each week and require parental permission before purchases are made,” the company noted.
“We plan to fight this in court. We believe the evidence will show that this case is meritless.”
How about parenting your child? The world is not to blame for your ineptness.
