6 year-old Paislee Shultis had been missing for more than two years.
Now, authorities have located her, alive and hidden in a secret location under a staircase. In 2019, her parents had kidnapped her after losing custody. She was found where her paternal grandfather lives after detectives saw her little feet when they conducted a search.
Because of a tip, officers were led to the home, in Saugerties, New York. After something didn’t seem right with the stairs, officers took off some of the steps. They then found the child and one abductor, her mother, within.
Paislee disappeared when she was 4 years-old. When police went to retrieve her after her parents lost custody, her parents left the city with her. No charges were pressed against the parents Kimberly Cooper, 33 and Kirk Shultis, 32, at the time.
Although police had searched the home before, they never found the child because the adults weren’t cooperative.
Cooper, Shultis Jr., and Shultis’ father have been charged with custodial inteference and child endangerment.
Paislee was checked out by a doctor and appeared to be in good health. However, one issue is that no one had been teaching her anything for awhile.
Paislee was later reunited with a guardian and her sister.
