Over 100 students in a Mississippi school district have been asked to quarantine after six students and a staff member tested positive for Coronavirus less than two weeks after school started.
Schools resumed on July 27 for Corinth County and five high school students, a middle school student and an elementary teacher tested positive.
Taylor Combs, a spokesperson for Corinth school district did confirm that 116 students that were in close contact with those who tested positive have been asked to quarantine at home.
Superintendent Lee Childress said in a statement, “We believe that most of these earlier cases are the result of community transmission, which further highlights the need for all community members to adopt and practice recommended safety measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The student population in this district is only 2700.

Mississippi has reported at least 63,444 COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday night and at least 1,804 deaths.
