A Philadelphia man was arrested after a fatal shooting took place outside his business on Saturday night.
41-year-old Maurice Byrd has been charged in the shooting death of 37-year-old Stephen Strassburg.
The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. when Hatboro police responded to Razor Reese’s Salon and Spa, which is owned by Byrd. When officers arrived, they discovered Strassburg in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Investigators learned that there had been an ongoing dispute between Byrd and Strassburg, who lived above the salon. Since 2022, police have responded to 3 previous verbal disputes between the men.
On the night of the shooting, Byrd called 911 to report that Strassburg was verbally assaulting him. He told dispatchers that Strassburg grabbed his shirt and looked ready to punch him. 5 gunshots were then heard over the phone, followed by a brief moment of silence, and two more shots.
Byrd then told dispatchers that he had to shoot him.
Seven 9mm shell casings were located at the scene, as well as a 9mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun, which was legally registered to Byrd.
Strassburg was not armed at the time of his death.
Byrd was charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and possessing an instrument of crime.
