Washington DC police are investigating a shooting that left a one year old boy dead Wednesday night.
Officers responded to a shooting call on the 5700 block of Southern Avenue SE after a man’s car was shot at multiple times.
The incident happened around 9:30pm when the 1 year old was traveling inside a car with his father and another child inside.
Carmelo Duncan,1 was struck multiple times and transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The father and other child in the vehicle were unharmed.
Authorities say a dark colored Mazda suv is a car of interest that was traveling down Southern Avenue at the time of the incident.
They also believe the car was targeted and that evidence showed more than one weapon being used in the shooting.
This investigation is ongoing and the father is cooperating with police.
