Garland police are investigating a shooting outside a Sonic restaurant that left one person injured Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a shooting call around 3 p.m. on the 3300 block of Broadway Boulevard. Upon arrival they found a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

He was transported to an area hospital with his condition unknown.

During the investigation officers learned that the victim got into a physical altercation with an unknown male. The suspect then pulled out a handgun, shot the victim and fled the scene before officers could arrive.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear and a motive for the fight has not been released.

According to authorities the shooter is described as a Hispanic male between 17 and 19 years old. He has a short haircut and was wearing a grey sweatshirt and grey sweatpants.

This shooting investigation is ongoing.

Garland ISD released a statement on Twitter Thursday afternoon saying several campuses were under “Secure” emergency response protocols while the police activity was underway, though they did not name all of the campuses.

“Parents, please be advised that several of our GISD campuses are currently on Secure due to police activity in the surrounding areas. All students and staff are safe. Please anticipate delays during dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation”.
