A police officer in New York has been placed on desk duty as the department looks into the matter of an arrest he made.
The incident has raised concerns by the mayor and police chief, and it involves a emergency crew employee.
The matter began in the parking lot of the ER at Strong Memorial Hospital, on Monday.
The EMT is said to have hit the door of the police detective’s vehicle as she unloaded a patient. Reports indicate that the officer wanted her identification, but she demanded to take her patient in first.
Camera surveillance footage from inside the facility showed what happened after that.
The EMT was forcefully placed in handcuffs and was walked out by the detective. Shortly afterwards, she was freed and wasn’t charged.
The EMT’S company, Monroe Ambulance, commented on the incident. “Our review of the video footage shows the safety of both our employee and that of her patient were jeopardized by the action of the officer.”
Rochester Mayor Malik Evans also remarked. “The video of the Rochester police investigator arresting an ambulance technician clearly doesn’t represent the standards of professional and ethical conduct…”
The department is currently conducting an internal investigation.
