A preliminary investigation indicates that two DPS Troopers attempted to stop a silver passenger car for a traffic violation in the area of Elsie Faye Heggins Street on Saturday night.
The driver of the vehicle evaded the Troopers and fled toward the intersection of Lagow and Jamaica streets. After approximately five minutes, the suspect stopped in the 4200 block of Jamaica Street and pulled into a residential driveway.
The suspect pulled a handgun on the Troopers as they approached. The Troopers then fired their service weapons, striking the suspect. Troopers immediately rendered first aid and called for emergency medical services. The suspect was transported to Baylor Dallas Medical Center and later died.
There were no other occupants in the vehicle, and the Troopers were not injured during the gunfire. The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers are investigating, and no additional information is available at this time.
