Officer Involved Shooting In Garland Left One Man Dead

An officer involved shooting in Garland left one man dead.
Officers responded to a disturbance with a gun call on the 1900 block of Vail Dr and when officers arrived they attempted to communicate with individuals that could be heard inside of the garage.
While attempting to communicate with people in the garage, multiple rounds were fired from inside the garage and at the officers through the garage door.
After shots were fired, officers observed three individuals fleeing from the house and learned a 7-year-old child was still trapped inside of the house, sleeping in a front bedroom.
SWAT officers entered the house to safely rescue the child and during the rescue attempt, officers were confronted by the suspect with a gun.
One of the SWAT officers, who is also a 5-year veteran of the Garland Police Department, discharged his weapon striking the suspect.
Garland Medics were on scene and provided immediate medical aid.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers found two pistols on the suspect.
A search was conducted of the house and the child was found unharmed in the bedroom.
The suspect was later identified as Dung Nguyen, 50, of Murphy.
The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
The investigation is ongoing.
