A Florida nurse posted photographs of a newborn baby with birth defects on the internet. Now, she has been fired.
Sierra Samuels worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital, and the officials there found out about the incident on September 8. Samuels, a neonatal intensive care nurse, shared pictures of the infant with gastroschisis, a condition that causes a baby’s intestines to stick out from its body. She uploaded the photos to her personal accounts on social media.
As possible privacy violation had transpired, Samuels had been put on administrative leave, at first. Then, on September 15, after an investigation, she was let go from the hospital.
Created to protect individuals’ medical records and health information, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is usually violated when pictures are posted without consent.
Underneath the pictures, she also wrote a caption, “My night was going great, then boom! Your intestines ‘posed to be inside not outside, baby!#gastroschisis.”
omG Sad Praying For The Family 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I’m so afraid. People who lack integrity are in great positions of authority. Not only in healthcare…everywhere! From construction to air traffic control. No one takes their professions seriously anymore.
This is really sad as long as it took her to get her degree its gone because of fooliness in a day
