North Carolina Mother Of Five Killed After Her Children Find Small Handgun In Her Purse

A North Carolina mother of five was accidentally shot and killed by one of her children after they found a handgun in her purse Monday evening.
According to reports officers were called to an apartment complex in Cornelius around 7pm.
Once they arrived they found Gabriel Alexis Henderson,25 in a back room dead from a gunshot wound and a younger child suffering from a gunshot wound.
The child was taken to a nearby hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Officers say the only people in the apartment were the woman and her five children.
The oldest was in another room at the time of the shooting.
Cornelius PD captain Jennifer Thompson said in a statement, “ We know that children are going to look at a gun and not be able to tell if it’s real or safe. That’s why we talk about how important it is to be a good gun owner.”
The children are staying with family now.
