New York Officer Placed On Administrative Leave Following Altercation At Walmart

A New York officer has been placed on paid administrative leave following an altercation with a woman at a Walmart.

The incident happened just before 5pm on July 4 at a Walmart in E. Syracuse.

Officers received a call about a group of people fighting at Walmart.

Tajenik Byrd,22 was there pulled out pepper spray and began spraying multiple people including children.

Tyreana Edmonds,26 was also there and was seen hitting employees in the face.

When officers Rory Spain and Corey Buyck arrived Spain handcuffed Edmonds without incident.

Then when he tried to arrest Byrd she became irritated knocking off his body cam.

Walmart surveillance show Spain and Buyck struggling.

Byrd falls to the ground as officers try to arrest her and Spain applied pressure to her hip and leg.

Once in handcuffs officers are seen walking the women out the store.

A bystander recording the incident has footage showing Edmond attempt to bite Spain on his arm and him striking her in the face.

Spain has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Edmonds was charged with second degree attempted assault of a police officer, obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, fourth degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and second degree harassment.

Byrd was charged with third degree assault, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a noxious material, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.
